Start with the job the money must do
Money for a near-term bill, emergency reserve, apartment move, or fixed purchase date has a different job from money intended for a long horizon. A projection is useful only after the goal, access needs, and acceptable chance of loss are clear.
APY and investment return are not interchangeable
A quoted savings APY annualizes deposit-account interest under stated assumptions. An entered investment return is a hypothetical scenario, not a quoted yield or smooth path. Investments can rise, fall, and finish below the amount contributed, especially over a short period.
Run the same cash flow through both calculators

Check the costs the projection leaves out
