Our calculator pages are built to show the formula, explain the inputs, provide examples, and highlight assumptions so readers can understand how each result is estimated.

A common comfort range

Many homes feel comfortable around 30% to 50% relative humidity. Lower levels can feel dry, while higher levels can feel sticky and may make damp rooms smell musty.

Basements need attention sooner

Basements often run cooler, which can make moisture problems more noticeable. If basement humidity is regularly above about 55%, use a dehumidifier, drainage improvements, or ventilation checks.

Measure before changing equipment

Use a hygrometer and check several times of day. Short spikes are normal, but persistent high humidity deserves more attention.
